White Gold!
By Matt Ledger
I got this MacBook for Christmas and it is truly the finest computer I have ever, ever used!I've spent all my life using Windows computers but having used a Mac only once before I immediately new what my next computer would be!The design is perfect, the white casing looks icy cool, the Apple logo on the lights up, the DVD burner is slot loading, there's no clip to close the lid just a clever magnet to hold it in place, same goes for the charger which connects using a magnet so if it is tugged for example by someone tripping over the cable it just pops out, the keys have small gaps between them so you don't accidently hit the next door key as you're typing and the best bit is that all these features aren't just marketing gimics, they all work beautifully! Now onto the computer itself! It took less than a day to get my head around the change of operating system, everything here looks so much better and simpler than on Windows, applications are lightening fast, taking almost no time to open, the equivalent of internet explorer (safari) loads web pages with almost no delay (unlike my Windows XP computer which really struggles along!). Compatability isn't really an issue, Word, Excel and Powerpoint can all be purchased and although not quite up to the standard of the same applications on Windows they do the job and the new releases coming in late 2007 will be almost identical to the new Windows programs. Plug n play devices such as USB flash drives, digital cameras etc actually work faster than on Windows with no need for waiting for drivers to install. Sadly the current version of Microsoft Messenger for Mac is not up to standard and doesn't let you use the built in 1.3 megapixel camera, an application called photo booth which comes with the MacBook is great fun though letting you stretch and bend live images, also the included iChat program lets you video chat with other Mac users in amazing quality. The most stunning application though must be Front Row, using the included remote you simply click the menu button and your desktop fades away to reveal the equivalent of Microsofts Media Centre, except this is simple, fast and looks great, you can access your music, photos, videos and a DVD all using the tiny remote!I'm sure I've missed some things but by now you probably get what I'm saying! This is the finest computer I have ever had the pleasure of using, which reminds me I haven't mentioned the fundamental advantages of owning a Mac, no spy ware, no viruses and no crashes all mean you feel safer and don't need to shell out money buying anti virus software!I could go on... Basically my message is... Stop thinking about it... Buy a Mac!

Best laptop in the world?
By shy_guy
Choosing a laptop can be very difficult business, unlike desktop computers notebook users have to factor in battery life, screen size, durability, and lifespan. Apple have always made great laptops, with the macbook they have made one at a competitive price. From a hardware perspective the macbook is an incredible machine. I don't want to labour the point, after all you've all seen the pictures, but the macbook is easily the prettiest laptop on earth. Under the hood it doesn't disappoint either, the new macbooks scream with core 2 duo Intel processors, huge hard drives, 1GB of RAM and gorgeous glossy screens. In addition the macbook ships with a built-in webcam/microphone, bluetooth and an apple remote control. The macbooks specifications and build quality are unsurpassed by any PC laptop at the same price. (I should add that the macbook's trackpad is ten times better than that of any PC laptop I've used)Mac's are really about software, and the Apple operating system, 'OS X' puts windows XP to shame. OS X is the world's most advanced operating system, it doesn't crash, is virus free and is amazingly intuitive to use. OS X comes with Apple's outstanding iLife suite of applications, from the first time you switch on your mac you can compose music, make DVDs, create slide shows in iPhoto and edit high definition video. OS X also runs Microsoft Office 04 and MSN messenger, so you can do work and chat to friends as well.If you're still not sure, you can now install windows XP on your mac using 'bootcamp', choosing which OS to use when you turn the computer on. So now there really is no excuse not to buy a mac.Coming from a windows world the macbook is a breath of fresh air, it does everything right. The only criticism I can think of is that it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, which isn't really an issue unless you are a gamer, in which case you probably wouldn't be buying a laptop at all.I love my macbook

A fantastic Laptop
By S. Ashby
I bought this in January when it first came out, and since the day I got it I have been impressed. Out of the box it takes minutes to set up (inputting things like your computer's name and setting up an account with Apple if you want to) and then you are straight in. Apple don't exaggerate when they say you can use this out of the box - you don't have to install anything, all that you need is there. It behaves like a PC but better - you not only have a Microsoft Office 'test drive' built in, you have iTunes, iPhoto, the iSight camera, Front Row (a beautiful interface for accessing photos, movies, CDs, Music and films via a tiny remote in full screen view) and so many more little things to discover. And that, for me, is the best thing about my MacBook - every day I can find something new, whether it's a new program I didn't know existed, a new trick for accessing something, the way you can add widgets from the internet. Everything is exciting to do. Also, in response to A Stead's review below, it is possible to set the right-click option (as it would be on windows) to 'place two fingers on the mouse pad and click'. The 'two fingers on the mouse pad' technique can also be used for scrolling (draw fingers up or down mouse pad to scroll) which is incredibly useful for web pages etc.The battery life is pretty good, and you can have different set-ups depending on your preference - Better Energy Savings sends the computer to sleep after 5 minutes, better performance decreases screen brightness etc. There is also the option to simply shut the laptop at any time, and, unlike a windows laptop, when you re-open it it is immediately back where it was before - no extra loading time, no 'waking up', you can open it and within a second be back to working on whatever you want.Important to note, though - the current MacBook is running MacOS 10 Tiger, which is due to be upgraded in October to MacOS 10 Leopard, which looks great. If you are thinking of buying a MacBook, I would advise you wait until then to get the new features that are included.Overall a fantastic Laptop, and I would strongly advise you buy one if you are looking for a new computer. But I would advise you, unless you are desperate, to wait until October when you will have the benefit of a new Operating System
