Good Quality Ballhead at a reasonable price

Users of Manfrotto Tripods and Balleheads will know that Manfrotto produce good quality no-nonsense products with some innovative features. This ballhead has a hydrostatic locking mechanism on the ball which locks it totally solid in any position. I've used this head with a Nikon D300s and a 70-200 f2.8 lens, this combination weighs almost 4kg and the head has no problem holding the weight either in portrait or landscape orientation. the large rubber locking knob is very easy to use even with gloves on. The smaller friction knob stops your camera flopping over when you release the main locking knob and works well. The plate release lever is a bit more fiddly and stiff but certainly wont come undone accidentally, even if your carrying your tripod over your shoulder with the camera mounted on the head. This obviously isn't in the same as a Really Right Stiff BH55 but then it costs about a third of the price.
