5Great stuff

This is a must have for the fast shooter. Just blast away all day without worrying about batteries. On top of that the refresh cycles are much faster too. It's also light enough to carry around all day comfortable.

4Metz Power Pack
By S. F. Monk
I purchased this to replace my older P50 which gave me many years of reliable service. The new P76 looks identical to the older version but has improved battery capacity. I used the older one for several years hanging from my trouser belt and connected to a Metz hammerhead flash which was screwed to my Hasselblad when I took wedding photographs. Although now retired I decided to re-invest in a new pack to give me the peace of mind of large flash capacity and quick recycling time for which this unit is well suited.

3Metz power pack

It's just a power pack. Nothing great about it. A wee bit on the heavy side, and very expensive (although I got it at a good price at the time from Amazon).I don't too care for the cable that goes from the battery pack to the flash gun, it's poorly designed and won't withstand heavy use (it pops out at times whilst you are shooting, so you are constantly having to keep an eye on it and give it a little press to keep it in its socket, and the spiral cabling is too stiff (which contributes to the aforementioned problem) meaning you can't comfortably extend it, and finally the cabling at the plug end cracks after even the lightest use). Quite frankly the cable is crap. The battery cells are sealed inside which means you can't replace them yourself and have to send the entire battery pack back to Metz for replacement. Really annoying. However, over the years, except for one little issue I had with them, I have found Metz a great company to deal with. The battery is safe for your flash, one could argue FAR TOO safe, in that it won't allow you to rapidly fire the flash for too long and thus burn out your flash; after a few quick flashes (too few in my view) on a high power setting, the battery back will cause the flash gun to slow down by increasing the recycling time. This can be annoying for paced shoots like a catwalk show (so the way around it is to increase your camera ISO setting so that the flashgun isn't having to work too hard (assuming of course your camera produces decent quality images at high ISO settings). But I guess, Metz might argue that you can't any pictures at all if your flash is burnt out so it's better to err on the side of caution. And yes, it does noticeably reduce the time for the attached flashgun to recycle.
