Endless fun for musicians and gadget lovers alike
By Bug DeLug
I am a musician and was interested in getting more involved with electronic instruments. Being a fan of Radiohead, I heard about their use of Korg Kaoss Pads in their music. This is the most recent model, and it is without doubt the most fun I have ever had making music. Within minutes of opening it, I was plugged in and creating amazing sounds, simply by talking into a microphone and playing about with the sounds. All you really need to get going is a pair oh headphones and a cheap mic- or you could use some of the in-built samples with which to get creative. I'm not sure how much it differs from the earlier models but I believe that there are quite a few new features. You could put your iPod in here and mess about with one of your favourite tracks, or plug a guitar in to create some really interesting sounds. Whatever you decide to use it for I can assure you that you will not tire of this thing. I let my 11 year-old nephew have a blast on this and he was loving it- the only problem being that afterwards he wanted one. So, all you need is a microphone and headphones to get started, or a couple of aux leads so that you can input sounds from the TV, radio or even your Ipod. Simply put- this is an astounding piece of kit.

Useful for beatboxing and instrument effects
By Ross
KP3's are great for instrument effects and voice effects. If you can beatbox you can make entire songs on it. However slight click when sampling, this is one annoying thing about it. Probably going to purchase another one soon to broaden my beatboxing horizons. It is also compatible with other machines, had a brief experience with a korg kaossilator mini, that sounded cool to sample, one problem with that however was flicking it from microphone to input whenever I wanted to record from the Kaossilator.

Unbelievably powerful - and fun too!
By Indigo Harper
It cannot be denied, the power of touch is extremely important to us as human beings - and this is becoming clearer and clearer as gadgets take a shift towards tactile interfaces. How impressive it is then, to see a device utilize touch-based sample manipulation to this level of precision, far before the arrival of the iPad. Initially I was tempted by the Korg Kaoss Pad Quad Kpq, which was released last year - but after reading several negative reviews I decided to go for the KP3. Unbelievably, the Kaoss Pad 3 was first released in 2006 and yet even in 2012 it is unmatched in what it does:Simply connect a microphone or MP3 player, plug in your amp or headphones and voila - you're making music! Live performers take note - the sample banks allow you record sounds that you make and keep them looping while you add extra layers - effectively allowing you to play multiple instruments simultaneously. If you want you can even save your samples to an SD card. The touchpad can then be used to manipulate your work, often creating sounds you'd never even dreamed of. It can even act as a MIDI controller for your live sets! The controls are easy to operate, and well laid out - with awesome tools like the Hold button (which allows you to keep an effect or filter going, even if you remove your hands from the touchpad), Pad Motion (which lets you save your movements across the touchpad and replay them) and Resampling (which allows you to save your output to a new sample).Whether you just want a new toy, or you're a serious stage or studio musician looking for a new way to expand your sound, there is no doubt - the Kaoss Pad 3 is a joy to work with and will really help you to generate exiting new sonic elements for your projects. Highly recommended.
