5Excellent but expensive
By J. Rankin
Bought to side mount a Speedlite 580 to a Canon 50D with Canon 100mm 2.8 macro attached. I'd checked out a few other non-Canon brackets and felt they were flimsy by comparision. This piece is very well machine, solid and custom designed for the equipment it's joining together. The Canon off-camera cord OC-E3 is included in the price. Most of my photography is out of doors, taking pics of insects, etc, with high risk of equipment damage. The bracket holds everything together securely with no risk whatsoever of the flash unit coming detached. The bracket's solid structure does add a lot to the weight of the overall package but everything's well balanced and sits comfortable for hand-held shooting. The Speedlite can be set at different distances and angles to the camera. If you ignore the hefty price tag then in my view a 5 star rating is fully justified.

3Well made but pricy

Canon Speedlite L Bracket SB-E2. Good but very expensive for what it is. The machining of the bracket is superb and very well made. My Canon Speedlite 580EX II fits perfectly when you have sorted out how it fits on the instructions are not to good. But fitted on to my Canon 5D mark 2 with 24-105 lens and flash quite heavy but very controllable.Only giving it 3 stars because of cost, But I am very happy with it.

5Brilliant but expensive.
By Mr. P. C. Tyler
I think it is always better to get the flash off the camera if you can, even just to the side helps enormously. The problem I found using an off camera cord was the hot shoe attachment takes all the weight of the flash and the 580 EX II is a fair weight. If you add a diffuser like a 'Gary Fong' light sphere you have even more weight acting on the hot shoe connector of the cord. Eventually this extra weight can start to cause the hot shoe connector on the cord to fail.Enter the SB-E2, this has an extra fixing point which screws into the side of the body of the 580EX II. Now you have much more support for the flash and any diffuser that you attach thus stopping any undue strain on the hot shoe connector.Yes, for a flash bracket it is mightily expensive but it is very well built, allows for height adjustment of the flash and offers that extra fixing point. Also there is nothing else out there which does the same job.
