Ok, but has problems
By Kahanamoku
Bought one of these about 6 weeks ago and I am STILL trying to solve all the software/hardware issues. It insisted on installing it's own version of ffdshow although it was already on my machine.. same with .net and all other common software that it thought it needed.FFdshow is a piece of software that runs videos. To get to it from the software so that you can set it up when the device is running you have to have it already running in the background of windows before you go into the trainer because the I-Magic software will not run in a window and so let you swap back to Windows when it is running. However, even that doesn't work because it takes no notice of the changes you make anyway until you go back out of the software and then back in again - this is a MAJOR pain and virtually prevents setting up the trainer to your own preferred graphic colours. Also some of the RLV videos run too fast, it is thought to be because of the fish eye lens and camera angle used, but you go around Provence with bent buildings and at about 40mph!! Even more confusingly there are versions of virtually identical videos of the same place that don't have the problems, because they realised there was a problem but didn't recall the DVD's; but it takes a trawl through the forums to find out which. On my machine - AMD 3.6Ghz, 2Gb memory, 1Gb new video card - the RLV still doesn't run smooth. Yes, the pictures are excellent, but it stutters slightly as it runs when you are going uphill. From what I can find out this is because it reduces the frame rate when your speed reduces, so the higher the hill, the more the slow frame rate becomes noticeable.I still don't really know how to set this machine up... and there is no manual or help line to help you.Personally I prefer the Realaxiom trainer - without going overboard for more expensive models. The graphics are not quite as good, but the set-up and overall training experience are much better. Also they don't seem to have released videos to market before they were fully tested out. What you get works.

This device keeps me fit

The Tacx T1900 is maybe one of their older models, but after 5 years is still working very well. It's definately good value for money. The real life video's are extremely motivating to ride, any time of the day. It's just that you have to be patient to setup the system. Sometimes the software needs to be updated and that takes hours. Sometimes the USB is not working and you have to plug in 3 or 4 times. But it is all worth it.

Teething problems but worth the wait
By L G Skelton
The Tacx t1900 i-magic is a belting piece of kit.I too have had the below mentioned issues with ffdshow and Real life videos playing too fast and not stopping. A tour of the tacx forums sorted out my issues quickly. Basically you need to uninstall any codecs you have (K-lite or Xvid, etc) and then install ffdshow. Once i did this the job was sorted and the system works like a dream.I love both the virtual reality and real life video options. The i-magic gives good response and resistance upto about a 10% climb (get the fortius if you want more and are prepared to pay big for it!).Basically its ideal for those (like me) who are easily bored and need something to interact with while cycling on a trainer. The unit itself is very easy to assemble, sturdy and surprisingly quiet in operation. So far I cannot fault it at all.Anyway ignore those reviewers who complain about technical issues, they are easily addressed. Love to chat more but I need to fire up my TTS 2 software and hit the slops of the Alpine classic!Happy riding...
