Beautiful product...
By Harriet James
... shame it took three weeks to arrive. I see another customer buying the purple A5 Finchley also had a very long delivery time too, otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it.So, was it worth waiting for? Yes. But it has both pros and cons:Pros first...The leather is beautifully soft and tactile, with slight padding behind (though not over-stuffed) and a glorious texture. The filofax closes with a press-stud, hidden behind a strap.Internally, the left-hand side has six credit-card slots, in two rows of three. Behind this is a zipped pocket, the full length of the filofax and behind that, there is a full-length open pocket (which holds A4 sheets folded in half easily). The right-hand side has a mesh pocket that can hold a note-pad, with a full-length open pocket behind. All of this storage seems well thought out and useful. The filofax came supplied with a 2011 diary (week on 2 pages; vertical; five language); six unlabelled cream dividers, some coloured paper (a few sheets each of several colours), a 50-sheet notepad, A-Z dividers (cream, two letters/divider), address sheets, To-Do sheets, financial sheets, a business-card holder that has 4 compartments, a transparent front sheet and a today-marker/ruler. There are also the usual personal info sheets, random information sheets (dress sizes in the EU, time zones, holidays etc...).Most of this was useful, although I always throw away the random information sheets (hence being a bit vague now about what was in them...)So, those are the pros, What are the cons?Cons:I already have an A5 Domino for work and this was bought to hold 'home' stuff. The Domino has a very stiff cover (making it easy to write in the filofax whilst not at a desk) but the Finchley has a more flexible cover, which actually suits me less well as I often want to write notes whilst travelling. It's not a deal-breaker for me though. The diary in it is week per view, in vertical columns rather than the week per view in horizontal format that came with the Domino. At work, the vertical format is actually better, so I just swapped them over. The ring size: the Finchley comes with 25mm rings, the Domino comes with 30mm rings. If you have a lot you want to put in the filofax, go for the bigger size - the Finchley is feeling a bit tight to be honest and I am used to being able to cram heaps into the Domino!Overall:It is a beautiful object that is glorious to handle and (to me) very functional and well-designed. It comes with a large array of inserts, although I personally would have preferred a larger ring size to utilise them better. I (again, personally) would have preferred a stiffer cover to be able to write in the filofax whilst on a train etc.
