Fishman Ellipse Matrix Blend

I installed this into a handmade OM style acoustic. It does exactly what I want. The mixer control allows you to slide between the internal microphone and the under-saddle pickup. The internal microphone is very natural, and in most circumstances (practice at home and solo floor spots at a folk club) I use it set towards this end. Adding in the under-saddle gives more volume and a bit more bass, but the sound isn't quite as natural. However, I understand the under-saddle pickup is more feedback resistant. No holes in the guitar side, and very discrete. I wouldn't recommend installing it yourself unless you know what you are doing, but it can be done. If you do, make sure the bass and treble E strings are far enough from the end of the undersaddle element, otherwise the sound will be weak on that string. Downsides: No tone control, which isn't a massive difficulty. The volume balance between microphone and undersaddle isn't quite right, even when you tweak the trim control. This means that when you slide from mic to undersaddle, the volume increases, which you have to compensate with the inbuilt volume control. Also, it isn't cheap, but I have had compliments on the quality of the plugged in sound, so money well spent.
