Appears solid

I received this lamp yesterday. Assembly was easy for the most part, but there are two small and fiddly screws to fix the top of the lamp onto the struts. These can easily be screwed all the way in and then vanish down into the struts if the alignment isn't just right.Unlike my previous floor lamps, which died after only a couple of years, this one seems to be more solidly built. In particular it does not have the usual floor plastic floor dimmer control (which seems to be the most vulnerable part of this type of lamp), but there are two switches that turn on the two lights. The one for the main lamp has a dimmer function, and the light brightens as it is turned further.I like the fact that the lamp can be switched off completely using that switch (there's a light resistance and then the switch cannot be turned further) - one of my problems with previous models was that is it was rather two easy not to push the slider all the way to where the light was truly off. Also, my previous floor lamp emitted a humming sound when it was on at anything other than full brightness, a feature which did not invite confidence, and which this lamp lacks.In summary, I'm happy with my purchase so far, and there are indications that this lamp does not share the weaknesses of other alternative models.

Cool Floorstand

Having just decorated our living room, we wanted a nice new corner lamp and a reading lamp - this does the lot!! I am always a bit dubious about buying something without seeing it 'in the flesh' but the quality of this lamp exceeded my expectations. The uplighter dimmer switch goes from a subtle corner light to illuminating the whole house! We sometimes just use the reading lamp, the combinations of illuminations are endless. It goes together easily in about 15 minutes and it is quite heavy. The only fault I could find (and I have an Honours Degree in fault finding) was that the dimmer quielty buzzes, not a real problem, you don't really hear it unless you listen for it. All in all worth 5 stars, friends and family have been equally impressed and could not believe the price we paid.

Managed to get this put together on Christmas Day after presenting it to my Dad as a very big and heavy present. Instructions vaguely confuseing until I realised that the lamp arrives partly assembled. It was fairly easy apart from manoevering the heavy base, but as the base needs to be heavy, I don't rate that as a failing! Works well and looks good.
