3Warped even when regularly oiled.
By G. J. Pilkington
This bin looked nice and is spacious enough for two people and their bread etc. The lid was oiled as per instructions, top, sides, inside and on the recessed lid with rape seed oil. After a couple of weeks it was redone and has been done like this every 2 weeks. Even so the lid started to distort and warp. Eventually, it will not close properly now at all and I telephoned Joseph Joseph who stated that they had not received any comments re warping lids. I sent them a copy of these reviews. They stated they will replace the lid which was only 3 months old. These reviews are an important tool to use whenever buying a product as they can be used to back up customers comments.

5The beech lid appears untreated, oil as soon as you open the box!
By S. G
I have had my eye on this bread bin for weeks having seen it in two shops. The bread bins in the shop displays were perfect so I was surprised to read the reviews on here saying the lids warped (some cases after only two weeks) BUT I suspect this is because the owners of the bin did not read or follow the instructions that came with the bin. I received my bread bin from amazon today. The wooden lid was separately wrapped in plastic with absorptive silica. Inside the bin was a slip of paper detailing how to care for the wooden lid. Read the instructions and follow them. The wooden lid appears UNTREATED and so it requires OILING prior to use and also frequently thereafter. This is not a daunting task. All you need is a thin cloth or kitchen roll which you will use to rub vegetable oil into the wooden lid. Make sure you do both sides, the edges and the sunken round handle. Of course I will be getting back to you if despite this the lid warps but I am fairly confident this is the missing link. Enjoy your bread bin.

3Lovely design but....
By Kawage Sol Crist
I love my bread bin but I had to drill some holes on the lid with a fostner bit (to make 2cm holes) because the lid fits too perfectly and humidity made the bread grow mold. Now with 6 holes on the board it is perfect. The bread breathes a little bit and the lid is still perfectly usable as a cutting board. I don't know if others have had this same problem or it's just the humidity in the place where I live combined to the fact that we eat maybe one loaf in 4 days.
