I don't think you can do better for the money

The image quality is second to none, you can set it up anywhere from fully automated point-and-shoot to totally manual and customised to the nth degree.It is possible to switch to auto and use this straight out of the box - you'll get stunning results - but the real fun starts when you want to take control. At this price, I don't believe it's possible to get the quality and range of control available here from any other camcorder.There are some high-end pro features you won't find here: interchangeable lenses, genlock and some other timecode sync features; to get those, you need to pay double the price. But for everything else, look no further.The ability to customise camera presets means you can get image quality and style for any taste.Any downsides? Not at this price.Once small point: when (if) you get one, and it won't do anything to record straight out of the box - set the Standby/Lock swicth to Standby. For some reason, large numbers of people (including me!!) miss this small point and then start panicking that they have a bad'un.

The footage shot with this camera is leagues ahead of anything else I have seen. The light floods in to the large L series lens, colour reality and automatic colour balance are stunningly accurate. Focus & zoom presets are useful for artistry. It is a VERY heavy camera and small people will need to work out to use it comfortably. In extremely low light there is a little pulsing to the luma level in sync with a lowered frame rate, when used. The second start-stop button, on the carry handle has a tendency to catch under the edges of its own recess. With the exception of these two small niggles the camera is outstanding in every respect. When watching the footage from recent holidays it does look exactly how I remember in terms of colour, detail, definition & sound quality.

I've had this camcorder for only 2 months but the quality of the recordings are truly impressive. I've used Sony, Canon and Panasonic in the past including 3 CCD models and this is easily the best in terms of picture and sound quality (although an external microphone helps as usual). It is large and the manual controls are extensive with a steep learning curve but the end result is worth it. Highly recommended but not for beginners.
