Excellent
By L. E. Brown
I have to express breast milk for my new daughter as she was 6 weeks early and had some difficulties feeding. I bought this particular model as it is the same make as the hospital breast pumps and I have not been disappointed. My milk supply is still going strong 6 weeks later and its handy that I can take it with me and express using the battery power option. Really can't praise this product enough.. it's truely helping me keep my supply going until such time that my baby can take to breast feeding (fingers crossed). My only critism is its a touch noisy but thats all. Great breast pump, worth the money.

As as says on the tin ......

Like many mothers who want the best for their baby but don't have the time or ability to sit down all day breast feeding on demand, the idea of the breast pump seems ideal.I did use a manual breast pump with my first daughter many years ago and found that I got myself into a sticky, irritated mess! It was beacuse of this I was in two minds whether to buy a pump at all, never mind spend the best part of £100 to purchase one.Having read professional reviews, I took a leap of faith and bought this model. I must say that while it may be considered a little expensive and it is a little tricky to operate one handed (while feeding my baby with the other breast,) I expressed some three ounces of milk in around 20 minutes.I was then able to take my baby out shopping for some essentials without having to give her formula milk or listen to her scream the shop down before we returned home. The pump is easy to assemble, clean and operate and will be a huge benefit when I return to work in the future.Simply, I wish I'd have bought one earlier!

Spend a little more and get a double pump
By Calandra09
I recommend to anyone considering the medela swing to have a look at the Lansinoh double pump instead if you are planning to breastfeed for a few months.I went through two Medela Swing pumps, both of which broke over the course of about 5 months. The first, the motor went and it was literally sucking in my nipple. Mothercare replaced it for free. The second, the valve broke and the suction went. The milk also backs up in the tube of the Medela, and can turn black, which seems unsanitary. I then bought the Lansinoh double pump from Amazon.Lansinoh vs Medela Swing:The Lansinoh double pump is not as 'comfortable' as the Medela Swing. It is a little noisier, and the rigid breast shields do not mold to the breast as well. It is probably a bit more expensive also (though not if you consider that the Medela is capable of breaking as per above). In my opinion, the negatives mentioned above are all a small price to pay for the speed and efficiency of a double pump over a single pump. I wish I'd had the Lansinoh the first 5 months I was breastfeeding, because it would have cut the pumping time in half, and I probably would have got more milk. If I had it to do over, I simply would not bother with a single pump. There are probably better double pumps you can buy for a lot more money, but for me, the Lansinoh was perfectly adequate, and value for money. As for comfort - is this really a big issue? I found pumping annoying and unpleasant anyway, so getting it over with faster is well worth the slightly more uncomfortable breast shield. The closed system also prevents the milk from backing up in the tube.I only used the Lansinoh for a few months at the end of my breastfeeding, but I wish I'd had it the whole time. In my opinion, it is better value for money than the Medela swing because it cuts the expressing time in half.
