Manfrotto MN595B Fig Rig (camcorder or remote not included)
After years of using the Fig Rig on his award-winning films, Mike Figgis brought his idea to Manfrotto. An idea that is non-traditional in design, but purely simple and effective. The only modular system in the world to smoothly support the DV camera and act as a frame to mount all the accessories - including zoom controllers, mics, mixers, lights, monitors, arms. A circular frame with a crossbar to mount most mini DV cameras, the Fig Rig becomes part of the body to produce smooth, steady travelling shots. It is this very fact which is the secret to the Fig Rig. As the operator walks, his/her muscles and tendons absorb all the shocks, transferring only fluid movements to the camera. As there are no straps or harnesses attached to the Fig Rig, quick and wide movements can be made within the same shot - from ground-level to overhead, in one smooth movement. The camera, accessories and operator become one, allowing you to film scenes quickly and unobtrusively. With the Fig Rig your creativity is virtually limitless.

    5Good rig for small cams
    By M. Reed
I use this with my Xacti HD2000 and it works well. It's steadier than one-hand handheld and allows you to do whip-pans and such which are difficult to do with steadicam. The rig itself is great to mount a high quality mic several inches away from the cam. With an additional clamp you can also fix a tripod quick-release to the figrig so it's not needed to unmount all your gubbins from the rig. If you're fashion conscious and worried about looking cool whilst shooting and dream about the glamour of the movie biz then this rig is not for you. You will look a dork using this "steering wheel" but if you can get over yourself it's a useful tool.

    3Forget the steady cam!
    By Storm
I'm very Ambivalent about this product. On the one hand as a camera support its excellent, but as a steady cam it's rubbish.First the good news the build quality as you would expect from Manfrotto is excellent you have upmost confidence in it's construction. In use hat this is good for I have found is getting unusual angles with little effort (As long as you are standing still!!) such as high up in corridors or over balconies etc. Its also good for attaching equipment, microphones, field recorders etc.Now the bad news. Its ridiculously overpriced and... It don't work as a steady cam! or at least we can't get a steady shot whilst moving. I work in a college and i've tried every one from the media club through the gymnastic team to the ballerinas and none have got a steady shot. Even when we creep around like a trainee ninjas in a Kung Fu movie we can't get a steady shot. As you are gripping it like a steering wheel your hips go up and down as you walk so it transfers to the camera. Also you have to buy the mic etc clamp separately!! You would have thought at this price they would have included it!I conclusion: If you have a cheep consumer camera then buy one of the cheeper alternatives on Amazon. But if your putting a Nikon D4 or a red camera on it you want the confidence that when you tilt forward the last shot your camera sees is not the wall flashing past as it drops ten floors, after someone jogs your elbow on the belcony. (Tip use a safety cord if you use it in this way).Personally if I had to do it again I would purchase one of the other steady cam rigs. (I will probably have to do this anyway). If this was priced at £40 and it came with the clamp included, it would be a asset to your equipment collection. But at this price I cannot recommend it.
