5Excellent alternative to disposable nappies.
By Mr. N. Pearson
We purchased 20 of these nappies hoping they'd prove a viable alternative to disposable nappies. Lots of friends laughed saying we'd soon change our minds; nearly 3 months later we're still happily using them.As a first time father I was horrified by the amount of waste produced when changing a single nappy. Multiply this by anything from 6-12 times a day and you begin to see how much you're going to putting into landfill sites. It's true that these reusable nappies aren't quite as convenient as disposable ones, mainly because you have to wash them. With 15 nappies you'll have to wash roughly every 24 hours. They dry relatively quickly within about 4-6 hours on a radiator. Performance wise they work very well especially when coupled with the matching fleece wraps. We've found that these wraps keep any wee off clothes just as effectively as branded disposables. Changing your baby takes no longer with these nappies if you use the disposable liners. The reusable fleece liner are much softer on you baby's bottom but you do have to wash off any poo before putting them in a bucket.I've heard claims that you can save £500+ by using reusable nappies. I think this is an exaggeration but they are certainly less expensive even when you figure in washing costs. Using a tumble drier rather than air drying will of course increase the cost and environmental impact. One great tip I picked up was to use little fleece squares as baby wipes. These can be washed with the nappies and liners and will save you lots of money, working much better than the cotton wool midwives and health visitors suggest.All-in-all a superb product manufactured in the UK, and one that can save you money whilst improving your eco credentials!

3Just not practical
By Busy mum
I really want to like these nappies but even after spending a small fortune on this starter pack I'm thinking of switching back to disposables. Although bamboo is supposed to be relatively slim fitting I find them to be very bulky, bulky enough that I need to dress my daughter in larger size outfits to accommodate them. I find I can't dress her in pants or tights at all because the nappies make her so wide around the hips when she is wearing them. I also find they restrict her movement. She is almost four months and loves to roll and wriggle around and I find she has much more freedom of movement when she is wearing a disposable. I find they're not as stretchy around the waist as the disposable nappies and I'm either doing them up too tight for comfort or too loose so they tend to leak, it's hard to find the sweet spot. I'm a bit confused as to why the set only comes with 4 outer covers. I assume you're not supposed to change the outer cover every time you change the nappy but they do get pretty wet with urine each time (they really are much wetter on the skin than disposables) so it's a little gross reusing them. Every time she poos I change the outer cover so I'm forever running out of clean covers (although there are more than enough nappies). After already spending so much money I'm reluctant to fork out any more on extra covers. Washing all the nappies and covers every day takes up a lot of time too, I put them on a rinse cycle first (which is necessary) then wash, then dry for about an hour which only gets them mostly dry, then I have to hang them up all around our tiny apartment overnight for them to get properly dry. It really ties up the washing machine every day when there's so much other washing to get through. One last minor complaint is that the velcro on the outer covers sticks to the edges of the covers so I'm forever unsticking them after each wash cycle. On the positive side they are quite soft (I have the washable liners which I'd recommend) and must feel nice on my baby's bum, they do seem well made and are standing up well to repeated washes. I really wanted to make the effort with reusable nappies with my second daughter because I hate the thought of all the waste with disposable diapers but I've just found them too impractical and time-consuming. I don't want to put anyone off trying reusable diapers but these are issues to think about first.
