5Great iPod dock - well worth auditioning
By Music Man
I've just bought one of these and think it's great. I wanted an iPod dock that allowed me to use other devices such as my CD player, and at the same time give me the functionality of the iPod dock. Most of the docks out there simply play your iPod. The clever thing about the iTube is that it is really two devices each capable of working without the other. So I can connect the dock to my ordinary amplifier and my CD player to the iTube valve amplifier. The sound is great, I'm playing the iTube through my Gale Gold Monitors and I think that given the relatively low output (quoted at 2x13w per channel) you need fairly efficient speakers which are easy to drive. The valve amp doesn't run especially hot, and the whole kit is fairly compact. The remote is a bit plasticky but seems to work after a fashion. Set up couldn't be simpler. So, all in all, a really cool iPod dock well worth auditioning.

4Cool looking and sounding amp and Dock
By Mr. P. Jones
As far as I can tell the valves in this beautiful little amp drive the pre-amp stage of the amp. The amp is beautiful to look at. Based on the Dared MP5, Fatman have modified it and made a beautiful little package. The dock will fit all ipods ( except the shuffle) and allows full control of the ipod via a remote. The amp itself has two line inputs - one for the dock and one for another source such as a CD player. The dock also has video out so you can watch videos on your ipod on a TV and enjoy the sound through the amp. You get an assortment of cables and unusually a pair of reasonable speaker cables with banana plugs on. Along with a pair of gloves for handling the amp and a little brush for cleaning. Remember to allow the amp and valves to cool down before attempting to clean it. Valves run hot. So what does it sound like. I've tried it with a pair of royd speakers and the vocals especially sound warm and smooth. It's ideal for a digital source and it seems alot more smypatheic than most other amps. Ir's reasonably loud but don't expect earth shattering volumes. It will distort if over driven especially the bass tends to saturate. It's only 15Watts per channel but is more than adequate at reasonable levels. It provides a beautiful clarity and sound field for the money. The largest valve also pulsates to the music with a lovely green glow. Ok so valve amp purists will be turning their noses up at this but for the money its a lovely package. You just don't expect these extras and little touches for this kind of money. If you want a really good sound from your ipod and not huge volumes then this could be a good place to start.

5A little Gem!......
By R. E. Skutnicki
Living next door to a Hi-Fi fanatic who like us has a High End Hi-Fi ......I had alot of guidance, all of it very good,in respect to which product I should buy to use mainly with my i-phone....hence the purchase of this product! Learn,t an awful lot.......Firstly...to get the quoted 25 watts per channel one needs to be using speakers with an impedance of 4 ohms......very rare,if not impossible to find, unless you opt for car stereo speakers!.......As recommended by Fatman.......Wharfedale bookshelf speakers which have an impedance of 6 ohms will provide you with an output of about 19 to 20 watts. The Wharfedale 9.1's although discontinued, superceded by the 10 series, are still available for about 90 to 100 pounds.....Fabulous sound from such a small speaker..A Lovely warm sound which comes from pairing this amp with the 9.1's...a combination which produces a quality of sound only using a valve amp can produce...As with any Hi-Fi speakers..to get the best soundstage the speakers should be between 6 to 8 feet apart and roughly at the same height as your ears!... Cables are the next most important item you should think about changing. You don't have to go to any great expense...but the rewards in terms of sound quality are outstanding!.Speaker cable by QED is very highly recommended.Something else which never occured to me, was changing the cable between the i-Dock and Amp...Did that on advice and could'nt believe the improvement.I too, have two high end Hi-Fi systems but lacked the technical knowledge etc to work out what to buy in terms of producing the best sound quality from what is a little gem of a midi Hi-Fi....After God knows how much advice... research etc....I ended up buying the Wharfedale 9.1 speakers, Qed speaker cable and used an interconnect I already had to connect the Dock to the Amp....Van den Hul......The biggest complement I can say, is that despite having two High End Hi-Fi's, we now tend to listen to the music we have stored on our i-phones etc through the i-valve/dock more than listening to CD's on our Hi-Fi. Little improvements to what was already a fabulous sounding and looking amp will, and should give you years of enjoyable listening pleasure! A room with subdued lighting will really enhance your listening pleasure.....those glowing valves!........
