4excellent piece of kit
By dave murphy
the R3 kit comes in a nice compact storage box and contains everything you need to create perfect pocket holes.well, almost everything.you see, the main problem with this kit is the lack of a faceclamp.this clamp is nesscessary for holding the jig to the workpiece(s).using an ordinary G clamp will suffice, but this method will slow you down considerably and i reccomend you buy the proper clamp in orderto use this jig correctly.best thing would be to buy a cheap welders clamp or mechanics clampinstead of forking out for the more expensive kreg branded item.anyways :ok, so your looking at this page wondering if you should buy this kit or not. my goal here is to inform you that this kit is worth the price, and i actually paid more than what this retailer has listed ( i paid 63 euro for it from a local industrial tool supplier ). reason being, amazon cannot post certain items to me. which sucks. i live in ireland, i cant see why its not possible.on to the contents, ( listed as image shows )you get a drill bit designed solely for use with this jigand it also has an adjustable depth stop.a drive bit, which acts as a screwdriver for the kreg screws, andit is elongated so you can reach certain screws in tight/hard toreach areas.the jig itself, which is of good quality plastic and metal guide hole's.an allen key, which is used for the adjustable depth stop collar on the drill bit.a round plastic clamp guide. this clicks onto the jig and you clamp directly to this point in order to hold the jig to the wood.spare screws.you get a decent amount of screws with the kit but i reccomend you buya box of certain sized screws to suit your application. this way, you wont get caught short and the project gets finished.upon first use, i noticed that the drill bit needs alot of rpm to cut cleanly,so use a good drill in the 800+ watt region to get best results.once the hole is made ( to one piece of wood only ) then you place the workpieces together and drive the self tapping screw home.its easy, its fast ( use a good clamp ) and its clean.i was shocked at how well only 1 screw held 2 pieces of wood together.its solid, stable and reassuringly tight. trust me on this, its vice grips tight. just use a bit of glue anyways for peace of mind.4 out of 5 stars, 1 star deducted for lack of faceclamp in the box.thoroughly reccomended though !!!full-time tradesmen/cabinetmakers may want the bigger master systems.this kit is more for the guy with a well decked out shed or the d.i.y ' er.

5Kreg jig - joinery made easy!
By Mandy Small
I bought this to help with building a fitted cupboard and it is a really handy piece of kit. Easy to use and a good quality drill bit that looks like it will last for years. I managed to drill holes for more than 20 joints in half an hour. I'm not a woodworking expert and this is the first piece of furniture I've built; if you're in a similar situation, I'd recommend this to you. It's are worth looking at some useful videos on U Tube that show you how to use it.

First of all, thanks for the heads up from Mr. Murphy, about the clamp (or lack of it) situation. That I sorted out... got a C clamp. What I should have done, is also take the advice and buy additional screws.Don't get me wrong, this is a brilliant tool. It does everything it claims to do and it is a real time saver. However, it is a designed system. Don't even think about trying to use other screws. What you save in cost you waste in time, and since time is money...it all evens out.Just one thing in case there are some execs from Kreg who actually pay attention to these reviews:You've got a wonderful product. I command you on the innovative design, and you deserve compensation for it. It's okay with me that your drill attachements for the screws only fit your particular brand of screws. I would have done the same. Now here comes the criticism:You're pissing off your customer base with simply enclosing 8 screws in variety of assorted sizes. Either don't provide any screws and offer them for sale separately in individual boxes of 25 or 100 or whatever...because the assortment included is not enough to finish a project. The other option of course is provide more.I currently live in Ibiza and had to order this item from the UK. I can't just pop down to the corner store and get some more screws. After having waited for this product to be delivered, now I have to wait an additional week for screws. I'm really, really, really annoyed, and that has spoiled the fact that the tool is amazing.Furthermore, the box of assorted screw sizes you sell, have had bad reviews, because the sizes are determined by Kreg, not one's individual needs. That's why I didn't buy them. I need number 8 screws in zinc to attach 2.5x20cm pine plancks to 5.8x5.8cm legs. You provide 8 of those in the kit. Without including the bottom supports, at a minimun just to assemble the table frame I need 16. Then of course, there's the joining of the tabletop boards to one another, attaching them to the frame the bottom supports, bottom shelves etc...I don't expect you to provide them for free, obviously, but...LET YOUR CUSTOMER KNOW...PLEASE!There's nothing more frustrating than having to stop what you're doing because you've run out of screws. It's kind of like buying a new car that just makes it out of the showroom, runs out of gas, and leaves you stranded in the middle of nowhere and not a gasoline station in sight. Get my drift?MariaP.S. On November 14, I tried ordering 100 packs of selected No. 8 size screws in coarse zinc, 2-1/2, 1-1/2, 1-1/4 inches. The delivery charge to my destination exceeded the cost of the screws. Thanks for nothing Kreg Jig!I now own an item I can't use.The rating goes to zero.It basically means that 300 screws cost me over 60 euros.
