A useful bit of macro kit

I bought my light ring about a year ago and there's no doubt that this is a well built and useful bit of kit for macro photograhpy (albeit rather expensive). However, I do have a couple of reservations. The bulbs are supposed to be white LEDs, however, they will burn through 4 AA Duracell batteries in about 20-30 minutes. Plus, the light ring will get very slightly warm to the touch. Surely LEDs should a) use very little power, and b) not be warm to the touch? I've got an LED torch that I bought years ago that's bright, doesn't get warm and is still on its original battery.These are minor gripes though, now that I've started using rechargeable batteries. Although I still feel compelled to turn the light ring off between shots to maximise the battery life.
