From Tomtom to this...... It's definitely a Tomtom beater !
By Gavin Robinson
Well, I was a Tomtom user for the last couple of years. I had the Tomtom 700 and I also bought the Tomtom 910. I was very happy with them, until I tried this product. I actually have the Snooper Syrius Euro, so it has the maps of Europe included on a 2GB Card. I also ordered the mounting kit (£20) from Preformance Products, which is designed to fit my car perfectly. The kit actually looks like part of the car, so much effort is done to do this, that I leave it in place all the time (the kit) and there is no danger that some will see that you have a Sat Nav mount - not like leaving your Tomtom mount in the windscreen, that would just be advertising for a broken window ! However the Snooper kit, well it blends in ! I can't recommmend the kit and the Snooper Syrius enough ! The Syrius's software is brilliant, and it's maps are better than Tomtom's. The instructions whilst driving and the map view, is also better than Tomtom. I used to rave about Tomtom to my friends and family, but I am now converted to Snooper Syrius ! It even looks sexier, and fits in better with the car generally - again owing to the car specific car mount. Buy this product and get the car mount kit ! Trust me, I have not regretted it once....... oh, my Tomtom's are now on Ebay ! ;)

Excellent System
By Caroline L
I bought this unit the other day and I am delighted with it so far. Very happy. It gives warnings of static speed cameras and also possible locations for radar vans and mobile cameras. The warning is clear, audible and even tells you what type of camera is ahead and what the speed limit is at that time, something along the lines of "Warning! Gatso ahead. Speed limit 30 miles per hour - watch your speed!" There is also an on-screen warning with the speed limit in big red letters. Couldn't be plainer. You get exactly the same type of message for possible radar vans and mobile camera locations only they call announce them as "Risk Zones" in the audible warning, but again with the current speed limit in force. There is also the facility for inputting your own Risk Zones and telling the Syrius what sort they are and what the speed limit is.The unit shows your current speed at the same time - again very useful. The navigation function is easy and very accurate with a choice of 2D or 3D mapping. The brightness of the screen is automatically adjustable for daylight or nighttime use. It also has bluetooth and a very good clear loudspeaker with on-screen dialling once linked to your mobile phone. It also clearly shows petrol stations, restaurants, golf courses, hospitals and many other points of interest. You can also input multiple journeys into the navigation system. The best point is that it runs on a Linux operating system not the dreadful Windows CE! It starts up quickly, has a very simple interface, and finds the satellites within seconds, always. It has won a number of awards this year, including a Which? award, and I can see why. It beats my old Road Angel Navigator 6000 by miles. The only thing to be aware of is that once you have the unit, you then have to register it with Snooper to download the Enigma speed camera database and this will cost you either £99 for life, or £4.99 a month, for the updates. The first 6 months are free of charge. But this is a small price to pay for saving your driving licence. All in all, I thoroughly recommend this product.

Be Warned
By Ian
I Have owned a syrius for 11 months. The 1st unit wouldn't work and i got a replacement fairly quickly. the first 3 months it worked OK the best points being the speed camera detector and speed warning. After 3 months the unit quickly went downhill. it took ages to switch on and detect satalites, it would just freeze before and halfway through a journey.and it now tells me we are parked on road 100 yeards away!!. This is garbage, needless to say performance products are not interested as the 12 month guarantee is almost up. I have replaced the unit with a Tom Tom. cheaper to buy, faster and easier to use. PS dont use after updates the syrius will freeze for 30 minutes.
