4good starter mando for not much cash
By Don Panik
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/RYKZ9V7XSC4NZ Well, forgive the playing - I have only played the mandolin for about an hour and a half in total - so this is me playing the 3 chords that I know: G D and A! But I thought it might be useful for potential buyers to see the M50E Electro Mandolin in action. This is played acoustically (not plugged in) - and is just captured on my camera - so the sound quality is not that great either. I have played it through an amp and I am impressed - with a bit of chorus and reverb it really rings out.My overall non expert (obviously!) opinion is that this is a great starter mandolin. The strings do take a while to settle down - but this is the original set as supplied and they do more or less stay in tune after about an hour or so playing in. However as supplied, the movable bridge on mine was slightly in the wrong place so the tuning goes out as you play up the neck. The tuning is therefore a compromise between the true note at open string and what it will sound like as you play chords. The action is slightly high as well (even when dropped to the lowest setting) which doesn't help with the tuning issue. Both probably fixable with a bit of patience on my part. For the price I paid from amazon warehouse I think this is OK (as long as you don't have perfect pitch - in which case it will annoy you a bit). Now just need to spend some time learning to play it!

5Stagg M50E Mandolin
By crater52
Ignoring the hysterical rantings of one reviewer and taking the balanced advice of another, I bought this mandolin. Yes, the strings fitted to the instrument are soft and don't hold tune well. Replace them with a set of good quality strings and you'll have no further problems. Am I happy with this instrument? Oh, yes. It is, after all, a budget mandolin, but the tone is excellent (In fact a friend, with a mandolin costing four times as much offered to do a swap!). The instrument, particularly the neck, is straight and true and the adjustable action is spot on. The machine heads work smoothly and, although I haven't yet played it as often electronically as acoustically, the amplified sound is just as good as the acoustic. This is a fine mandolin for the money.

5Overjoyed
By Michael
I purchased my mandolin several weeks ago and must admit I am over the moon with the quality, tone and playability of this product. I viewed many mandolins in local music shops and couldn't get anywhere near the price range, most instruments were at least twice the price and no better in quality. The Stagg gig bag is also really smart looking and good quality. I really feel that I have received excellent value for money and a really good service. Best I learn to play now.
