Works like a dream

In the days when CRT monitors still ruled it was very difficult to find a calibration device that didn't make the colours on an LCD display turn out muddy and washed out. Now that LCD is the norm rather than the exception, monitor calibration for LCD displays is much easier as calibration devices are now better set up for them.X-rite's Eye One Display2 is recommended by Photoshop guru Scott Kelby, and as I have a lot of faith in Scott's judgement I decided to give it a whirl. I was glad I did - it is so much better and easier than any of the other calibration devices I've tried (and failed miserably with). Eye One Display2 can profile CRT, LCD and laptop displays with ease and accuracy, so now I can calibrate my laptop's display too - no more colour mismatches there! It's incredibly easy to use - you can either go for the advanced settings (if you like messing around) or you can go for the easy option (which does it all for you). The results from the Easy setting are more than acceptable unless you're absolutely fanatical about colour matching - I've tried both and to be honest I can't see much difference. The resulting profile is automatically set as the default, but it's easy enough to revert to an earlier profile (though why you'd want to do that I can't imagine).The device produces brilliant results. After years of fiddling with printer settings to get a (no more than reasonable) match to what I saw in my monitor, I can now get the best possible match every time - with no fiddling!Thoroughly recommended.

Essential accessory for the serious amateur/professional

What made me buy this product was the huge difference between the photos in my screen and after printing. Since I have 2 computers and they both showed similarish colours, I thought they can't both be wrong, right? Wrong. As soon as I calibrated both screens I saw a huge difference, and when comparing with the prints I already had, I could see they were much closer. Now this was to illustrate the usefulness of this kind of product. What about this product in particular?My experience with the Eye One Display 2 was mostly positive, there was already a driver available for Windows 7 that worked without any problem and the supplied software did its job.Although, I noticed some small bugs in the software itself. Nothing show-stopper, but a little annoying at times. Calibrating an external screen that I use with my laptop wasn't as straightforward as I thought, because even though I had set the external one as main screen and had the window of the application in it, it would still try to profile the laptop screen. My suggestion to the ones with this problem is, in windows, to disable the laptop screen, run the calibration software with the external one and then re enable the screen.In summary:Very useful product that produces very good results with some quirks that can be easily bypassed.

It takes a while to fully understand how to get the best results out of your monitor. Some trial-and-error experiments will be needed.In the end, the device does exactly what it is supposed to do. And it does it well.The selling price is a little bit higher than similar Competitor's products (e.d. Datacolor Spyder).Excellent technical support available on Xrite's website.
