Fellowes Pulsar A4 Manual Comb Binder Product Description:

  • Binding Capacity 15
  • Punch Capacity 300
  •  Comb Size 38mm

Product Description

The Fellowes PULSAR comb binder is designed for office users. It is strong and simple to operate for new or experienced users. It punches up to 15 sheets (80gsm) with ease and bind with all sizes of comb from 6mm to 38 mm. Documents can be bound easily from the smallest sizes up to 300 sheets. The strong hinged lid opens to load sheets vertically. The sheets can be aligned perfectly to the rotary adjustable edge guide. The design uses separate punching and binding mechanisms positioned logically to improve performance. The machine includes a storage tray for spare combs and integral comb size guide that is simple to use. The lid and punch handle fold flat to enable the machine to be stored tidily and attractively on the desktop. The machine includes a window to the chip tray (to show when the tray is full) and a starter pack with a selection of plastic combs, clear pvc and leathergrain binding covers in popular colours.

5A good balance between regular home/small organisation use and price
By Nigel HS
Fellowes has a wide range of alternatives to this model, but in the end I decided on this model as (a) it has fewer moving parts than the electrically operated version and so, fewer bits to go wrong; (b) robustness - I could have gone for a less well specified version (punching fewer sheets perhaps and with a smaller capacity for binding), but the marginal cost of moving up one rung in the ladder does seem worth it. (c) Our use is for home projects, supporting one of our local voluntary organisations that cannot justify the cost on its own. So, even though this will get slightly more use than simple home projects, the wider range of binding and punching capacity should meet most uses. Before purchasing, I did look at the lesser specified version in a city shop, and didn't like the 'flimsiness' of the machinery. The results are extremely good - I suggest buying a decent variety of comb sizes - boxes of 100 are not prohibitively expensive and you can store some of them in the machine itself if you are going 'walkabout'.

5Does what it says on the box.
By Geoskies
Well it's a comb binder punch and that what it does.I've never used one of these before, so the instruction took a little figuring out. Not very clear. But with a little common sense I completed the task.It says max' 15 sheets. Well I was punching 160gsm paper and only managed about 6 sheets at a time. "OK it was thick paper"It comes with 10 binders and covers, basic enough to get you going. It took me about 5 mins to do a 60 page document. A little fiddling to get it onto the comb binding, but it was fun -I guess. After doing 30 I may have a different view :o)So so far it's 10/10.Money well spent

5Great V.F.M.
By Mrs. F. P. Tompkins
I agonised over buying this - particularly whether to buy the electric or the manual version. My experience to date had been with a "personal" comb binder which claimed to punch up to 8 sheets but in reality only punched 2. It also wasted a lot of paper in mis-punching and, as such, I thought that an electric punch might be the way forward despite the huge cost. In the end I bought the manual Pulsar model having got a "deal" on it in Staples. It's blinking marvellous. 40 page books which took me 20mins on my "personal" binder now take 1 to 2 minutes. The vertical loading (which I was dubious about) is a huge boon - gravity helps make sure the paper is all lined up for a clean punch. The machine is very robust and the punching handle has a nice solid action through which you can feel the cascading cut. There is a little wheel to adjust the paper edge alignment (my only niggle really is that you keep having to tweak this). Oh yes - the instruction booklet is rubbish. If you are an experienced comb binder then the machine is pretty obvious and you won't need any instructions - if, however, you have never combed before then you might scratch your head a little. My 10 year old has been helping me make my booklets. She takes a little longer than me as she's not so strong to press the punching handle and therefore does the paper in 10s rather than 15s - but she loves using it as it's such a slick machine. FYI I have registered it to activate the 2 year warranty - if it stops punching cleanly it'l be back to the shop with it! My advice - feel free to go for it. This is Great Value for Money!
