5Compact and lightweight
By D. Brown
This lens, sadly discontinued now, was in my opinion one of the best budget lenses Nikon made. Although lacking VR its makes up for it with its lightweight and compact size. I have lenses costing ten times the price of this yet in real world photography this lens can hold its own against them all. Fit it on something like a lightweight D3100 or D3200 and you have something that is small and light but can pack a real punch. When I use a lens like this I really question why I have spent out so much on more expensive versions, and tell myself that I should spend less time worrying about things like edge performance on lenses and more time taking photographs.

4A good alturnative to the 18-55mm Kit lens
By shepherdhill
Well Firstly I would like to point out that that I am not a professional photographer just a keen enthusiast & as such I am not using this lens daily however I managed to take around 400 images with it since I purchased it a few weeks ago & this review is based on my first impressions.I bought the lens to replace the 18-55mm VR Kit lens that came as standard with my Nikon D5000. This lens is slightly larger & heavier than the 18-55Kit lens & lacks the vibration Reduction system found on many of Nikons current AFS lenses. It covers a good focal length (27-200mm)& as a result is hardly off my camera. I have mostly used it at the wide end (18mm) where it has proved to be pin sharp but with a little light fall off visable in the extreme outer edges. There is some slight barrel distortion visable also but neither of these two things are out of the ordinary or impeed performace to any great degree. At the 200mm end images appear sharp & I cannot notice any significant drop off in sharpness. At f3.5-5.6 it is hardly a portrait lens but does have a nice bokeh when used at a long focal lengh. So far I have not missed the lack of a VR system either but in fairness I tend to use flash in low light levels & dont often use very long exposures. All in all I am pleased with my purchase & would recomend this lens as a good alturnative to the 18-200 VR which is around the £600 mark.I will upload some sample images taken with this lens.

4Nikon camera lens
By Matt Mellor
The lens is exactly as I wanted (replacement for broken lens) and arrived within the promised timeframe, well packed and with cap and hood included. It's working fine. Thanks.
