Product Description
The MB-D80 battery pack adds extended shooting capability in an ergonomic design that adds shooting stability. Able to run on either one or two EN-EL3e batteries or six AA-size batteries; it also features additional command dials and alternative buttons for shutter release and AE-Lock/AF-Lock that make vertical shooting more comfortable. Approx. 2;500 shots with one EN-EL3e and approx. 5;000 shots with two EN-EL3e batteries. Compatible AA-size batteries comprise alkaline; Ni-MH; lithium and nickel-manganese batteries.

could be a bit cheaper but essential

Absolutely essential if you use the Nikon D80 or the new D90. Not only for portrait shooting but also out in the field where battery life is important.The grip also adds some balance to the DSLR body's feel in your hands. It could be a bit cheaper, and do not be tempted by generics or equivalents. Nikon build their stuff properly and that counts.

Solid comfortable gives great flexibility and stability when used on camera(Nikon D80)Everything is at hand for vertical shooting the aperture and shutter wheels are at your fingertips with a well made feel and good responsive action,also a lockable shutter button (no strained wrists) which is very positive in use.The battery chamber takes the Nikon ENEL3 battery (2 can be fitted at once) or use the AA battery holder supplied for rechargeable AA. All battery life can be check in the camera menu ENEL3 batteries get individual power display so you know which one to change first..It won't change your life but it will help your photography

Brilliant piece of equipment. love the extra sturdy feel it adds to your camera although it makes your camera look bulky. must have for all camera users, if you don't own a grip get one asap, you won't be sorry. highly recommended.
