4Ingersoll Watch
By Spikey
I bought this watch in November 2010 and am very happy with it. It is sturdy and owing to its size has a sense of "presence". Only complaint is that the date does ocassionally fall out of kilter, but this is minor issue. Many people have seen my watch and queried me about it as it is not a "common brand". Overall would recommend it to others to buy.

5Good quality watch, but strap is tricky!!!
By Alan L-J
Ingersoll Gents White Dial Black Leather Strap WatchWatch arrived yesterday, and so far I am delighted with it.The instructions were clear and accurate, and took up no more space than a post-it pad! It's important to note though that this 'automatic' watch does require an initial wind-up to get it going, again as per the instructions, and unless you're an activity junkie (with lots of involuntary arm swinging),you'll almost certainly have to wind the watch up daily. For me, that's not going to be a problem. In fact,I delighted in the nostalgia of having had to 'wind-up' my new watch...just like the old days.Anyway, I had the watch set up and working in just a few minutes (pardon the pun) :-) ... which is morethan I can say for my two other analogue/battery/chronograph watches: I've had those some years now,and still haven't managed to set them up correctly. So, that's quite some victory then for this good old fashioned mechanical watch!!The watch has a high quality finish and is a thing of beauty to behold. If I had won the lotto and taken completeleave of my senses, I'm sure I could have happily paid 3000 euros for this watch in some Parisian haute couturewatch shop.As for the strap: it's very well made, and again, very good in quality, but if you've never used one of thesetypes of clasps before, then it does take some learning. You must make sure when putting it on, to firmly pressthe clasp mechanism in two places underneath the strap, and to listen for both 'clicks' which tells you that themetal clasps have firmly engaged and that the strap is securely fastened. Be prepared to set your alarm to go offa half hour early in the mornings just to allow time to struggle with the strap! To be quite honest, I've given up with it, and have just ordered a conventional subtle rich blue strap (with white stitching) from Ebay. I think that'll compliment nicely the watch's own blue hands and pretty jewels. Not everyone'schoice perhaps though.Despite the complicated strap, I will still rate this watch 5/5 and would highly recomment it. :-)One month later: still delighted !!! The watch has performed flawlessly, not losing or gaining a single minute. As for the strap, I now love it! :-) The lovely blue strap with white stitching arrived, and I swapped over. However, after a week of use, and before the new strap arrived, I'd figured out how to use the supplied strap clasp mechanism, and decided to remove that too from the supplied black strap and transfer it to my new blue strap. All went well, although before undertaking this task, you do need to be good at very small-scale work, and havesome decent quality small scale tools at hand, such as a pair of tiny slot-head screw drivers, and perhaps also a set of small forceps. You need the pair of tiny slot-head screwdrivers to undo the screws at either end of each of thetwo pins which are used to fix the strap to the body of the watch. Normally, these are spring-loaded pins, but in this case, there are slot heads on either end of each pin to undo. Don't be put off though, because everything about this strap and its component parts has a feel of exclusivity about it.Personally, I haven't given my watch the opportunity to wind-down, as I wind it up each evening, giving it about 10 full turns. Perhaps that's totally unnecessary; I really don't know yet. Interestingly, during winding, I've never yet hit astop point. Perhaps with this automatic mechanism you simply never reach a stop point whilst winding. The two big buttons either side of the 'winder': top one allows you to advance the date (two numeric digits) of the month, and the bottom one is for advancing the month of the year. Really simple to use, and you will need to adjust these manually at the end of each month. Amusingly, as you advance the two numeric digits to the date you want, they rotate from '00' through to '39', i.e. 00,01,02,03 etc etc ... 10,11,12,13 etc ... 20,21,22,23 etc ... 30,31,32,33,34,35 etc etc!! :-)Recessed button: other side from main buttons: this is used only at initial set up, to set the day of the week i.e.1 = Monday, 2 = Tuesday, 3 = Wednesday etc. The instructions correctly tell you to initially set this one day early, then move the hands (with the winder knob) to the correct time, making sure you go past minute en route, which inturn moves the day of the week dial to the correct day.Fantastic watch. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I am presently doing. :-)
