Boasting performance comparable to much larger systems, but in a compact package, the bi-amplified 8040A is ideal for use in many situations where a wide frequency response is needed but space is limited. Uses include nearfield monitoring, project/home studios, workstations, broadcast and TV control rooms and mobile production vehicles. The ingenious, flow optimized, reflex port achieves clear deep bass articulation with no compression or port noises. Combined with the advanced Genelec Directivity Control WaveguideTM (DCWTM) and the rounded edges and gently curved front and sides of the MDETM (Minimum Diffraction EnclosureTM) enclosure, the result is an astoundingly wide, flat frequency response both on and off axis. Other benefits include superb imaging qualities and less listening fatigue. Carefully designed crossover filters with steep roll-off feed dedicated amplifiers for each of the low distortion drivers. The 8040A includes magnetic shielding, overload protection circuitry and versatile room response controls as standard. Each 8040A comes with an Iso-PodTM (Isolation Positioner/DecouplerTM) which eliminates coloration of the sound by decoupling the monitor from its mounting surface. The Iso-PodTM also allows the speaker to be angled so that its acoustic axis points directly at the listener. For ideal mounting in differing environments, the 8040A includes integrated rear support points for floor and wall stands, with an additional M10 threaded mounting hole on the enclosure base. multi use - reliability

Bought for digital audio workstation use - pc sits in large family lounge and doubles as entertainment center.They have been on for 8 months continuously - no kidding and must get several hours of high spl use most days which includes dance music production and raw synthesizer waveform punishment up to the red light!Sound is... fantasticly energetic but can be ruthless with dull and lifeless production - which is hugely overprevelant commercialy.Sooo... dynamic, reliable as can be bought, but demands best replay equipment!Use with 7060 sub to reach higher spl's but you will damage your ears!Feb 2010 and still switched on and blowing visitors away!

You would have to pry these speakers from my cold dead hands. I bought these back in 2004, and still love 'em. For me they are the perfect balance of great detail across the spectrum, but without being tiring. The imaging is fantastic (as long as you only use them as nearfields...the imaging fades as you move away from the sweet spot of about 1-2m from them.), and you get much more volume out of them than you'd expect for their compact size. They are heavy though, so don't let the size fool you....
