The Best Mind Mapping Tool Around
By J. Grant
MindGenius is superb for creative thinking, to do lists, and lesson planning. It can be used to build creative maps to use as a 'mapping from memory style' exercise in class, to assess prior knowledge of pupils in any particular subject, to evaluate pupil understanding of a topic, and to engage them in a meaningful way through a very interactive piece of software. I particularly feel, that it saves time, as it allows vast quantities of information to be created in a very short period. As we know, in schools, time is something we are short of, and to be able to use this in a meeting for example, and to walk out of it, press one button and every single action from this meeting is emailed to all attendees with specific deadlines to whatever Microsoft package you are using. We use outlook on an exchange server, and it configured well, into calendars and email to see progress on particular projects. They also say, its not just a piece of mind mapping software, but 'computer aided thinking'. The reason this applies, is for example, you can type as much information you know about a subject, create a huge map of your existing knowledge, and then say, export direct to Microsoft Word. This way you are working in the thinking, and not typing it up and wasting your time on the deliverables, i.e. the formatting, justifcation, spell checker, hanging indents, tabbing, spacing, thesaurus and overall crap we find ourselves spending all our thinking time 'playing' with... good for creating a presentation, as you can go back after the content is created, export to PP then adjust timings, animation etc.Overall, very good for simple tasks, and if you invest some time now in learning how to use it effectively, then it will bring long term rewards... Happy Mapping!

really helpful if you stuggle to write essays
By Clare Bear
I'm a mature student at university and I have dyslexia. I stuggle to write essays and get intimidated with knowing where to start. But Mind Mapping has really helped me. Basically you can start by deviding the essay out into areas that need to be covered and then areas within that area that are relevent and other points that should be mentioned. after this you can then add notes to each part and it has a word count on this programme so you can keep track of where your at with your essay. This programme is one of many programmes that can mind map but I find this is a superior one mainly as you can export the content of your mind maps to any microsoft office programme (word/power point/excel/project and viso) I have used it for word so far but will need it for powerpoint later in my course. Another great function not available of other programmes I found is that you can export tasks to outlook so your prompted to complete each part of your essay. also you can get a 30 day trial on the website to see if it works for you. The reason I did not give this programme full marks was that it slows my laptop down considerably but this could be an issue with my hardware.
