good for engine failures

In flight, it's normal practise to rest your heels on the floor and apply rudder using your toes, this is to reduce the heavy foot forces and make your controls more sensitive. Unfortunately there is a lip on the bottom of the pedals which forces you to rest your entire foot on the pedal, combined with a heavy centering action means it's difficult to make the minute rudder inputs necessary to hold heading, it's awkward for co-ordinated turns. It is good for heavy footwork stuff, engine failures on multis, directional control on take off and also works well as a procedural trainer.Just to clarify, light a/c are flown with rudder because the low momentum and short arm moment rudder give good responses. On heavies rudder isn't used because of sweep, oscillatory stability and cause it shakes the plane.

Have been using these for three months now, predominantly on Aces High 2.Sturdy construction is impressive, good quality plastics, solid fixing to keep them solidly mounted with long velcro strips and/or screws.The toe brakes are excellent and accurate, the rudders however are not positive enough, even in stockined feet, whatever the tension setting, it is easy to leave a degree of rudder applied, causing problems with accuracy and speed. The centreing return spring is too weak and the centre feel is ambiguous.

These pedals turned out to be much bigger than they appear, so take up a lot of space. They also need screwing down - the Velcro fixing really isn't enough. They have a fairly real action, although they do take some getting used to. The toe brake action is excellent, the rudder movements less so. Read the Saitek forum first for setting up information as the instructions are not very good and are rather out of date, although a bit better on the CD provided. You'll need to download up-to-date drivers too. Not for the faint hearted.
