Fun But Frustrating
By D. Sim
I originaly purchased this title lookoing for an enjoyable sports game for the PSP and at that it did deliver. The graphics look fantastic and the game play is smooth. It is ideal for gaming on the move and the online play is good. The problems arise in the long loading times throughout the menus and sometimes frustrating matches. It seams that unless you play in the begginer setting it is sometimes impossible to score. I frequently found my self in perfect position to find my shots deflected. Overall the game is fast paced and exiting but more suited to quick games as the extra futures are a tad disapointing.

NHL back on form
By SJ Mckellar
Being an NHL fan, over recent years I have been a little disappointed with EA's offerings, and having not tried the 2K series, the last one I owned was back on the PS One. So I picked this up on a recommendation and several glowing reviews with more than a little trepidation. I need not have worried. For those old enough to remember, this game brings back memories of the classic EA hockey on the Mega Drive, fast, furious and most importantly, fun. Presentation is the usual top notch EA stuff, fully licensed from the NHL to the German, Finnish, Swedish and Czech leagues to international, team entrances and all. Music is typical hockey rock, not unpleasant, and commentary is pleasant banter and factual insight from mainstays Houston and Simpson. What is most important though, is on ice. Player animation is superb, and the action once you get going is fast, fun and frantic. Passing and shooting is instinctive and hits are big and satisfying. On the flipside though, if you want to play a more realistic, steady style of play, the game is versatile enough to allow that. Every conceivable option is adjustable, so it really is up to you how you want the game to play. The analogue nub too, oft criticised, is spot on, and players deke and pirouette effortlessly. Setting the shot aim to manual takes a little getting used to, but it pays off in the end, and goals aren't always easy to come by on higher difficulties. It seems that NHL is almost perfectly suited to the PSP, and, when, in my opinion, truly unputdownable handheld games are fairly hard to come by, this has nailed it. It has been in since the day I bought it.I say almost perfectly suited, the main gripe I have, and to be truthful, the only gripe is that the load times are very long, but once you're in, it'll hook you. It brings back the days of fast, furious and frantic EA hockey, and that's fine by me.

A great experience for any hockey fan!
By D. Haardt
I have been a fan of the EA Sports NHL series since 1994, when I bought NHL Hockey 95 on CD-ROM. Due to my being a research nomad at the moment I do not play PC games anymore, but I do own a PSP for which I bought NHL 07 the first day it came out in England. After having played several matches, my first impression is /very/ positive. The first thing you will notice is that the music is superb, going in the direction of rock, indie, and metal. Secondly, you will be pleased by the in-game commentary by Jim Houston and Craig Simpson who add stories about famous rivalries between the teams currently playing, or about the player who just shot a goal. This really makes the game as real as seeing hockey live on TV. In addition to the NHL teams, there are now also the teams from the Czech, Finnish, German, and Swedish leagues (with licence for player names and team outfits), as well as several national sides (without licence). This just adds to the fascination. Most importantly, the gameplay is excellent and just feels like real hockey. I am very impressed by this game and glad I bought it. A great experience for any hockey fan!
