the future
By Chris Hoare
The 685b monopod is light and has a good height range. The reason to get this over every other monopod is the hight mechanism. When you want to extend the leg the with this monpod you pull a leaver at the top; step on the foot and adjust the hight to whatever you desire; no twisting; no catches a hand sized trigger and adjust to whatever hight you want. Once the trigger is released the leg is super rigid even with a heavy slr on top. The only question is why its taken so long to get here.

Great for Weddings
By N. Bowler
This monopod really is good. It's fairly light but real solid, looks meaty aswell and of quality robust design. After buying my Sigma 70 - 200mm f2.8 and soon realising that shooting at slow speeds was hard to get a sharp shot i decided i needed a decent monopod. I dont like the idea of the standard tri-pod clamps, couple of clicks to adjust etc.....I bought this for the weddings and inside the church, dont have time to be adjusting the length but here a quick step on the bottom, squeeze of the trigger and boom! your there! So simple. I fully recommend this to anyone that needs speed in their shooting!

Solid, well made but...
By Mr. S. Crook
I got this because I didn't want to lug a full tripod around with me. It's well made, very solid, and there's obviously a lot of thought gone into the construction. It's expensive, but I think you get your moneys worth. There's a price you have to pay for that solidity, it's big and, for a monopod, pretty heavy. I have to say that after a few weeks using it I really can't fault it for the job that it does. Combined with the Manfrotto mini ball head it makes a good platform for getting that bit extra stability for a lens, extending and collapsing it really is a one handed operation, with no fiddling around with clips or twist locks. If you want a monopod to take with you on a photo shoot, it's fine. However, if you're looking for a monpod to take with you on a hike, I think it's both too big (the minimum size is 76cm) and too heavy to lug around for 10Km and, unless you have a backpack designed to hold a monopod/tripod you'll have one hand permanently occupied carrying it.There are smaller, lighter (and cheaper) monopods around, but you'll sacrifice that slick extending mechanism, but at least they're suitable for a hike.5 Stars because, judged on it's own terms it succeeds admirably.Update 05/2011: I've returned to this monopod because I became frustrated with the Velbon Ultra Stick L50 (50LX) where the twist lock would bind and be difficult to unlock. After some use over the last couple of months I've found that the nuts/bolts on the handle of the Manfrotto have come loose. One set parted company and could easily have been lost. But apart from that, no complaints.
