A bit too small for a 17" widescreen!

I love the Crumpler brand - their bags and protective sleeves are probably the most efficient at protecting delicate gear available on teh market. This 17" sleeve is very padded and feels and looks sleek. It protects your laptop against scratches and accidental spills as well as looking smooth, smart and sleek.However my only gripe with this sleeve is that its advertised as being suitable for a 17" Widescreen laptop - CHECK YOUR DIMENSIONS!!! I have the Toshiba Equium which is probably THE largest laptop ever produced. I have my doubts that this super beast even qualifies as a 'portable' product. It does fit into this protective sleeve but I have to literally force the thing in and as a result I've often just left one side unzipped. Saying that, the Gimp protective sleeve will stretch to infinity but if you want to purchase for a wide laptop, I would definitely check your dimensions first.

Having bought a laptop from my 20 year-old son this summer I decided to protect it with a simple case. I have used Crumpler camera cases before and like the neoprene fabric - it seems to have just the right amount of stretch and cushioning, whilst being waterproof into the bargain (although not of course the zip, so think showerproof).I found it relatively difficult to find reliable information regarding the size of the case and which laptops would fit which models, and to be honest I think the Crumpler product names are a bit daft, but I'm probably twice the age of their typical customer... Suffice to say that this fits a Compaq 615 nicely - not over tight, but room for the tiny mouse dongle to remain in the USB port on one side.The tape loops sewn into the corners of the "lid" of the case are meant to sit over the top corners of the laptop monitor, but I don't bother, as they tend to obscure the icons that you use to minimise, reduce or close windows in the top right corner. This is very minor criticism; generally I am happy with the case. Arguably it is overpriced, but if it saved the laptop being damaged or destroyed it would probably seem very good value!

Crumpler

I purchased this one for my nephew to go along with his laptop I bought him for Crimbo, I have one myself and also bought on for my mum last Crimbo. It fits perfect for my nephew's laptop and keeps it's clean and free from minor bumps and bruises. I am yet to experience any downside to the Crumpler.
