The fruit cage - A tale of surprise, terror and satisfaction.
By Gilbert
Surprise:I ordered the fruit cage and an opening door at lunchtime on Wednesday and it arrived the next day. It didn't look like much, just 2 packages. When I opened the packages and everything was there, just as it should be. Then I looked for the instruction book.Terror:No instruction book - funny. Looked closer and there was a single sided sheet of A4 with the briefest instructions I have ever seen.Took the whole thing down to the allotment to set up feeling full of trepidation. What seemed like lots of 'bits' and one diagram with half a page of notes as instructions. What had I let myself in for.Satisfaction:As it turns out, I need not have worried. Once I sorted out the components, the diagram made sense and I did not even need to look at the instructions. The frame went up in less than one hour. Locating the frame, sinking the legs in and levelling it took less time and then it was onto the netting. Half a day - job done. No tears, no tantrums and a fine looking fruit cage assembled, sited and ready for use.Epilogue:In the end, I used cable ties for the side netting as I wanted to make sure it stays taught and see no need to remove it. This left lots of re-usable clips to hold the roof netting in place and makes it easy to take the roof off in winter (as 2W&E recommend). Using a spade to go along the line of side netting to create a trench meant I could sink the net into the ground before pegging it, using the pegs provided, so making sure there are no gaps at the bottom for birds to walk into the cage. This also seemed to stabilise the frame even more.I highly recommend this fruit cage and particularly commend Two Wests and Elliott for their speed of service. I had no need to contact them, but based on the service received I have every confidence that any question would have been handled quickly and correctly. Two Wests Standard 6' High Fruit Cage 12' x 12' Fruit Cage Door - Standard Finish
