Ideal for Podcasting
By Satisfied at Last
Everyone tries to podcast using headphones with mic's - usually Plantronics or Sennheiser. The best way to improve a Podcast - is to buy a better Mic. This the first rule, and easiest. There are several mics to consider, of which Samson and Rode are the two at the top of the tree. This podcasting kit is superb, the shockmount is superb, the stand is superb, and I'm delighted that I bought the kit - the quality is sublime. It has American and European fittings. It's despatched with the LARGER US fittings attached. Now to attach the mic to the stand, you'll need to match up either to American or European fittings, it's up to you, as you get both. If you unscrew the base of the mic, you'll find the neat Europe fittings underneath - its design is brilliant, as it'll work in either continent. It doesn't have a headjack on the mic, for this you'll need the Rode podcasting kit. Most important is performance. If you're on XP, you Must download the presoft software. This makes a tremendous difference!! If you're on VISTA, you can't use presoft, so go to Control Panel > Sound > Samson Mic > Properties > take up the level to around 80 or so.Now it ships with the mic on a low setting, around 6. So you'll initially wonder why the recordings are so quiet, they're still great, but quiet. So take it up to 50, or 80, which ever suits your voice better. This makes so so much difference... but it will now pick up overhead airplanes and dogs barking. It works basically on plug and play. Straight out of the box. Providing, someone's tipped you off about the American connectors being fitted on arrival. :-)

Excellent Microphone!
By Olesya Marsh
This is a brilliant product. Many thanks to the previous reviewer, - I had no trouble with sound and installation (Vista). I am not a musician, I record voice audios only for personal/work use, so I cannot comment on an enclosed software (Sonar LE). I use Adobe Soundbooth and it works very well for me (even better now that I have a decent mic). To give you an example of sound quality: my six year old son loves to record little stories and listen to his voice, from another room I heard his playback and had to come back in to check, because there was absolutely no difference between live voice and a playback. So it sounds great and looks great on my table:)!I bought this set after reading many different reviews on the internet, it seems that the only problem people had with this microphone is that it was too quiet, probably all Vista users like myself. The microphone does come with a low sound setting, so again check the first review here and change the sound settings accordingly. I did however order anti-pop screen just in case. Overall, I am very happy I had enough sense to invest in this product. I can get to some quality work now.
