4National Geographic Medium Shoulder Bag
By J.Roughley
I finally found the right bag for my kit when this arrived, in the months previous I had purchased the Lowepro Fastpack 200 OK, but no room for growth, the Lowepro Fastpack 350 Lowepro Fastpack 350 Quick Access Backpack For SLR Kit, 17" Notebook & General Gear - Black (too bulky) and again not enough room for growth, I live in a place where I don't get an option to try before I buy, so purchasing can be a bit of trial and error.I wanted a bag that could fit all my kit in and that I could carry round and not have too look like I was hiking up Mount Everest. Then this arrived, not only does it look good I was able to fit my...Canon 5D mark ii with 17-40mm lens(and stupid large hood) attached70-200mm L in its bagSigma 105mm Macro in padded caseCanon 50mm 1.4A Canon 430exii Flash in its caseSpare Batteries for Camera and FlashFilters,Remote, Flash Diffusers, chargers etc etc..It has room for a small netbook, maybe up to 13", I can't test this as I don't own one but Will definitely fit a 10" netbook.I've still got room for other various bits, but I doubt any more Lenses unless they where less than 80mm and then they would have to go in the deep outer pockets, something which I would be afraid to do as padding is none existent in these pockets, saying that.... I can't see me needing more than 5 Lenses out at once anyway,I don't need 5 out with me now but its good they fit.Regarding overall padding, you get a padded pocket with lid on the inside that will hold the camera and that's attached with Velcro which can be moved to either end of the bag (your camera will sit lens down in the internal padded pocket)I chose the centre as lenses can go either side and avoid rattling against each other and also help to balance the bag, this padded pocket will only fit the Standard DSLR sized body, what I mean in saying that is it won't fit with an attached battery grip, which is a shame as its only about 15- 20 mm out from doing this, It may fit the smaller DSLR and grip , I can't say for certain. Its not the most padded bag I've seen and it does make me take a little more care than I would of with say the Fastpack 200/350, it has a padded bottom but me,like another reviewer would have liked to see seen some form of brass/metal studs on the bottom to lift it slightly from the floor.I too am I little dubious of its waterproofing potential, however I'm not the type of person to go out in torrential rain and cannot see it causing too much of an issue for me, The inner materiel reminds me of a ground sheet from a tent, albeit more flexible not at tough and outer material is of a tough Canvasy? type, The fittings and overall build quality of the bag is excellent, its pretty big and any larger I believe would have to be of the backpack size.I've kept my Lowepro 350 for the fact it takes my 17" laptop too, but for general use...this is my bag.I'd recommend this bag for anyone with a similar kit sized to what I mentioned, I've found between my photographic friends we all have different tastes in bags and what is comfortable for us, and if you can find one of these in the shops, go try it outSaying that Amazon have one of the best return services I've come across, and retuning products is usually a doddle.

5Great bag!
By M. Witherington
I like this bag (thus the 5 stars). The bag has a large main section with an insert to hold your dslr. Either side of the insert there is enough space to hold a few medium tele-photo lenses and other equipment. The base of the main section has padding to protect the ends of your lenses. The rear of the main section has a slot which will hold a netbook no larger than 12.5x10 inch in size. The bag has an inner zip able flap to seal the bag from dust and moisture. Outside the main section of the bag are two large pockets, and another two pockets on the outer flap of the bag.The strap is thick, adjustable and comfortable on the shoulder; the handle on the top of the bag is capable of taking the weight of a full bag (don't think I will use this handle much). There are loops on the front and sides of the bag to lash equipment too, although you only get one detachable Velcro loop strap to `lash' with. Finally there is a zipper on the outer back of the bag for paperwork (would fit a slim A5 book). The thing I do not like about this bag is that there is no rubber (or other) reinforcement on the base of this bag, which means that you need to be careful where you put this bag down. I know that rubber would not be in-keeping with NGs philosophy for the bag (environmentally friendly materials, yada, yada), but I am sure they could have devised some sort of protection, brassed studs or something?? Since I take care of my stuff I do not think this will be a great issue for me but maybe for others. I think this bag would take a shower but I am not convinced that this bag is waterproof (water resistant is a more accurate description).I wanted to see how much I could comfortably fit in the bag and this is what I managed to fit:Main section:D300 SLR with 135mm lens attached, Sigma 10-20 in its case, 200mm macro (smaller AIS lens, not the larger AF version), joby gorillapod SLR zoom, 10.5mm fisheye and a 105mm macro lens.Outer Pockets:SB-600 Flash in its case, rocket blower, various lens hoods.Flap pockets:Lenspen, rear lens cap and camera body cap, polarising filters, step-up rings extra memory and battery, cable release. There is space left in the outer pockets but the main section of the bag is packed. The bag still feels comfortable on the shoulder even with this much weight. If this is the medium bag the large must be massive.Hope you find this information useful, cheers, Mark.

5An excellent field/camera bag
By JohnDiptera
As an amateur entomologist and photographer I have been looking for some time for a suitable field bag. My requirements were that it should be a shoulder bag so that I could easily access the contents without having to take it off my back. It needed to protect my camera (Canon SX20IS compact but could take DSLR + spare lens) but also hold various collecting tubes, pooters, foldable net, notebook and other bits and pieces. I did not want a hard case as they are uncomfortable and get in the way on long days out and game/fishing field bags tend to be floppy and everything ends up in a tangle at the bottom of the bag. This bag is the best I have found. I have been using it for a few weeks and it has met my requirements fully. It is soft but has a stiffening base which helps keep things in place. The insertable cells protect the photographic gear and the 4 large pockets hold all the smaller bits and pieces that I carry. The document pocket is excellent for maps and recording sheets. There is still plenty of room for a flask. I can also clip my GPS to the straps on top of the bag so that I can quickly get a grid reference. Whilst the bag is spacious, it is not too wide (another problem with traditional camera bags) and the wide shoulder strap makes it comfortable to carry. So far I am delighted with it.
