Robots and Dinosaurs always make a good combination

The original Grimlock was released during the 80's as part of the Transformers G1 toy line and the character has remained popular with fans of the francise ever since. This latest Grimlock compares well with the original and is a good looking and fun toy in it's own right. In robot mode Grimlock is very poseable and has several points of articulation, much better then the original robot in the 80's. In T.Rex mode the figure has a moveable jaw and looks very impressive, but his legs sit at an odd angel that makes the toy feel less substantial, it probably won't stand up to being dropped down the stairs. The tail fails off when the toy is handeled so it's not likely to stand up to heavy play by young children. The original T.Rex mode was a lot more robust and looked cooler too. The rubix cube style transformation is satisfying and something that children and collectors will have a lot of fun with. There are some clever design elemets which ensure that Grimlock never looks like a robot with a dinosaur on his back, a critism leveled at the orignal Dinobot toy line.One last comparrison - this latest incarnation has a whip instead of a sword. This is OK I guess, personally I miss the sword!Overall this is a very cool toy, but one that won't survive very long in rough hands.
