The child pushes his or her self along with feet on the floor. When they are ready they can put their feet up onto the platform and just keep going. If they feel unstable the feet go straight back to the floor without pedals getting in the way.

Good bike - poor info

Great little bike: sturdy and easy to ride. But I bought it for my just 2yo who is quite tall, having done all the 'saddle-height' measurements etc, and found that we could probably have bought him the next size up. Advice: try one if you can; if you can't, do the measurements with child's shoes on (!) and be prepared for the bike to look quite small. But very happy with it.

Finally, a learner bike that's small enough

When our youngest (1 1/2 years at the time) got the smallest Puky learner bike, she was still slightly too short to sit comfortably on the saddle. But a couple of months later she was able to "walk" with it. Now at almost 2 years of age she whizzes around and just loves trying to keep up with her bigger sister. This bike is a must for any short but very active 2-year-old. Puky is excellent quality!

We started with our first daughter with one to these wooden walking bikes - they cost quite some money and aren't that great. Far to long for little ones to sit on the seat and reach the handle bar. This one got the geometry just right. My first daughter started on this one aged 4yrs. She had practiced before with the wooden walking bike. Within 2weeks she made the transition to a normal bike without stabilizers. That's the whole point of the walking bikes. They get so good with their balance that they don't need stabilizers from the start when going on a real bike. My second daughter is now the proud owner. She is only 2yrs and has already mastered the balance. Real great product. Plus good resale value on ebay (I checked that before committing to the price).
